Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, Florida's sensational rock music artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Hearst Greek Theatre!
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was formed in Gainesville (Florida) in 1976 with Tom Petty as the lead singer and guitar player, Mike Campbell as the lead guitarist, Ron Blair on bass, Stan Lynch on drums, and Benmont Tench on keyboards. They’re widely regarded as the one of the leading artists of heartland rock; a subgenre of rock music characterized by a straightforward musical style, a concern with the average, blue collar American life, and a conviction that rock music has a social or communal purpose beyond just entertainment. The genre eschewed the synthesizer based music and fashion elements being popularized in the 1980s (such as synth pop and New Romanticism) in favor of a straightforward classic rock sound and lyrics based on relatable, blue collar issues. They're best known for hit singles such as "American Girl", "Breakdown", "The Waiting", "Learning to Fly", "Refugee" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance". While the heartland rock movement fizzled in the 1990s, the band remained active and popular. They’ve had a stellar career with 16 studio albums, performed with many renowned bands (Pearl Jam, The Allman Brothers Band, to name a few) and in 1999, they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their contributions to the recording industry.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to rock music!
