Sensational indie rock and folk rock artists The National and Daughter are bringing their signature sounds to the Hearst Greek Theatre!
The National was formed in Cincinnati in 1999 and it currently consists of Matt Berninger (lead vocals), Aaron Dessner (guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, harmonica, mandola, and backing vocals), Bryce Dessner (guitar, keyboards, piano, and backing vocals), Scott Devendorf (bass, guitar, backing vocals), and Bryan Devendorf (drums, percussion, and backing vocals). Their musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze) and post punk revival (genre of alternative rock and indie rock that developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, inspired by the original sounds and aesthetics of garage rock of the 1960s and new wave and post-punk of the 1980s). They’ve had a stellar career with 6 studio albums (one of which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album), 9 music videos, 13 singles, 2 extended plays, and they’ve performed at many major music events including Reading and Leeds Festivals, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. Their latest album (Sleep Well Beast) comes out in September 2017.
